Interview - The Verals
You're all still very young, how old were you when you first started playing your respective instruments?
We started playing musical instruments at very young ages. Kane who is lead singer and guitarist picked up a guitar at the age of 6, and started singing around the age of 12. Our drummer Curt, who is the youngest in the band, started playing drums when he was 7 years old. Then our bassist, Jack, started a little later at the age of 12. He is the oldest in the band.
How does it feel to have made such a name for yourselves within Sheffield already?
It feels really good to have made a name for ourselves already. It really does tell us that the hard work we are putting into the band is definitely paying off.
Where was your first gig at and what do you remember of it?
Our first gig was at Kane's Uncle's pub called 'The Angel' it was a great little gig to get us started because the pub was busy and everyone seemed to enjoy it. We were just 12 and 13 years old when we played this.
If there was one venue/arena/festival you could play in the world, where would you choose?
We would love to play a lot of festivals around the world that would suit our music, but we think as a band we would love to play Download Festival and Leeds/Reading the most. There isn't really a specific arena, because we would like to be greedy and play them all!
You obviously gig with bands that are older than you, do you learn much from other, older bands whilst gigging?
Yes, we learn so much from some bands that are older than us. For example, they might know how to get the crowd going better than us and it is a learning curve to us to know what we could do better next time.
What's next for The Verals?
Next for us is getting our name known everywhere in the UK. Soon, we will be gigging out of Sheffield and getting to as many places out of the city as we can. Also at the same time we will be writing better music that we hope everybody loves.
