Interview - Liberty Ship
Introduce yourselves to us; who have we got in the band?
We're Liberty Ship, 4 piece indie rock 'n' roll band from the suburbs of Sheffield. We consist of Lewis (lead vocals & rhythm guitar), Jack (lead guitar), James (bass), and Kierran (drums).
How did you all meet?
We all met at school, back when we were 13! It just started out as a laugh. I think it came as a surprise to us when we realised we could not only play, but we could play enough tunes to do a gig!
Where was you first gig in Sheffield?
Our first gig we played was at The Boardwalk (RIP!) in Sheffield. One fine Sunday afternoon! I think the doors opened at 3p.m!
And what do you remember of that gig?
It was a brilliant gig! Looking back we've realised how good it was to play such a legendary venue. Not only for our first gig, but a for a number of others too.
What is your favourite gig in Sheffield to date?
Tough one! I don't think we could narrow it down to just one! It has to be either supporting Sheffield's own Joe Carnall at The Leadmill last Christmas, or with Reverend And The Makers at O2 Academy. We also played a boss headline gig at The Plug in January. The last 6 months has been brilliant for gigs.
What was it like touring with Reverend and the Makers, and how did that all come about?
It was messy! On a serious note though, it was quality. The crowds were brilliant. We've known the Reverend lot for a few years now, and we had the pleasure of being asked to join them for this tour.
Has supporting Reverend helped you grow as a band?
Yes, definitely so! It was a class experience being able to play to a guaranteed crowd night after night. Reverend And The Makers fans are renowned for being mental so it was always a good atmosphere.
Finally, what is next in terms of gigs and releases for you?
We're doing a few gigs with The Enemy in June, we can't wait for that. We have plans to do 1 or 2 gigs over Sheffield's Tramlines weekend. We're also in the process of recording an EP, so keep your eyes peeled in the not too distant future! We're enjoying 2014 so far.
