Interview - The Kavaliers

Now, you're from Doncaster but you've played a lot in Sheffield, how much do you enjoy coming over for a gig in Sheffield?

We love coming over to Sheffield, there's such a great music scene and loads of great bands over there - so it's good to get involved in that. Also, Sheffield has so many true music fans and people who are genuinely passionate about music to play for. At every gig we meet people who are into what we, and other bands, are trying to achieve.

You've played many venues in Sheffield, but has there been one which has stood out to you as the best?

I think the best ones have to be The Leadmill, O2 Academy 2 and The Plug. Those venues have amazing sound systems so the tunes always sound massive. It's always great playing a bigger venue as well. But the smaller venues have a really intimate feel too, such as The Royal Standard. It's a really intimate venue so the people coming to watch can get really close in, which we like.

You played Plug recently with Modern Faces, SSS and Section 60, how did that go for you?

That was a great gig. Like we said, The Plug has an amazing sound system and that room just seems to make everything sound huge, so it was an absolute pleasure playing there. The other bands absolutely smashed it as well, so a good night all round!

Are you building up a fan base in Sheffield?

Yeah we're trying. It's a great city, with a lot of music fans, so having a fan base there really is a must!

Looking through your influences, it is very Britpop orientated. With it being 20 years of Britpop, what would be your favourite track from that era?

Thats quite a tough one! I think it'd have to be something by Oasis or Shed Seven. Can't think of Britpop without thinking of those two.

What's next up for The Kavaliers?

Next, we're heading into the studio to record an EP which will be out very soon. We'll be gigging further afield, and writing more tunes. We're also playing tramlines which will be mega!
